What is an allergy?
The word "allergy" is derived from Greek words "allos"
meaning different or changed, and "ergos" meaning work or action. It is estimated that 50 million North Americans
are effected by an allergic condition.
An allergy is an exaggerated or altered reaction by our immune system
in response to bodily contact with certain foreign substances. In non-allergic people it is seen by the body as harmless
and no response occurs. Allergic people's bodies recognize the foreign substance and one part of the immune system
is turned on. Allergy producing substances are often called "allergens".
Conventional medicine
has several methods for testing allergies. These include Intradermal Test, the Patch
Test, the Scratch Test, and various blood tests such as the RAST Test
and the Elisa Test. The standard allergy treatment is drug therapy using antihistamines or
steroids to control allergic symptoms. Unfortunately, this does not correct the underlying problem. The cost of treating allergies
in the United States is more that 10 billion dollars yearly.
From a western medical perspective, an allergy is an overreaction
by the immune system. From a holistic perspective based on Oriental Medical principles, an allergy is defined in terms of
what a substance does to the energy flow in the body. Allergies are the results of energy imbalance in the body, leading to
a diminished state of health in one or more organ systems.
When contact is made with an allergen, it causes blockage
in the energy pathways called meridians. Thought about in another way, it disrupts the normal flow of energy through the body’s
electrical circuits. This blockage causes interference in communication between the brain and body via the nerve system.
Through
31 pairs of spinal nerves, the brain operates the largest network of communication with the body. Energy blockage happens
in a person’s body due to contact with the adverse energy of other substances. When two adverse energies come close,
repulsion take place. When similar energies get together, attraction takes place. The repulsion of energy is referred to as
allergy.
The repulsion of energies can happen between two living organisms, (i.e., between two humans, such
as father and son, husband and wife, two friends, animal and human etc.). It can also occur between one living organism and
one non-living organism. For example, between a human being and fabrics or food; between one living organism and energies
of other substances (i.e., food, chemicals, plastic, aluminum, pollens, radiation from the TV, microwave, sun, etc.)
The
whole idea of treatment for the allergy with natural medicine is to reprogram your brain (central nerve system) to accept
all foods, substances, products, and environment as natural or beneficial.
Allergy Elimination Technique in Natural Medicine
Kinesiology
Kinesiology
is the art and science of the muscle movement of the human body. Kinesiology is used in allergy elimination technique by comparing
the strength and weakness of any muscle (also known as neuromuscular sensitivity testing) of the body in the presence or
absence of any substance. A measured weakness in the presence of a substance is due to the effect of an allergy to the item
in person is touching. This simple method can be used to detect one’s allergens.
Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine
Yin-Yang
theory from Oriental medical principle teaches the importance of maintaining homeostasis in the body. According to Oriental
Medical principles, “When the body is in perfect balance, no disease is possible.” Any disturbance in the homeostasis
can cause disease. Any allergen capable of producing a weakening muscular effect in the body can cause the disturbance in
homeostasis. Hence, disease can be prevented and cured by maintaining homeostasis. According to the theory of acupuncture, using
acupuncture at a specific point on the body is capable of bringing the body to a state of homeostasis by removing
the energy blockage from energy pathways known as meridians. When the blockage are removed, energy can flow freely through
the energy meridians, thus bring the body in perfect balance.
Nutrition
You truly are what you eat! To paraphrase what Hippocrates said around 400 B.C.
"Food is your medicine and your medicine is your food." Good health is achieved through correct nutrition.
The question, however, is "What is correct nutrition?" and "How do we get it."
Our philosophy is to offer the body all of the known nutrients that it needs to keep it operating
at top efficiency.
Each individual has different biochemistry and food will be processed differently.
The same foods react differently in different people. What is food for someone may be poison for others.
When
we can eat nutritious foods without discomfort and assimilate their nutrients, that food is said to the right food. When you
get indigestion, bloating or other digestive trouble upon eating the food, that food is not helping you function normally.
We say this is generally an allergy to the food.
Unfortunately the majority of public does not know that 80%
of human disease comes from unhealthy diet and allergies to food they consume everyday or certain substances they have contact
with.
